Legendary radio announcer Woody Durham announced Tuesday night he’s stepping down as the “Voice of the Tar Heels,” a job he’s held for 40 years. He’s called more than 1,800 North Carolina football and men’s basketball games in his career. Above, Durham calling UNC’s winning 1982 national championship game. Below, more from DTH sports editor Jonathan Jones:

“You hear UNC sports and you think Woody Durham,” said Greg Tilley, who spotted for Durham at UNC football games this past season. “It’s that way for me and a lot of people who know or listen to him. He is UNC sports.”
